Flickerfest 2017

1:00pm, Fri 07 Apr 2017
Celebrating 26 years as ‘The Home Of Great Short Film’ in 2017, Flickerfest remains Australia’s leading Academy® Accredited and BAFTA recognised short film festival, continuing to present A-list short film programmes recognised amongst the best in the world. Flickerfest is excited to bring the Best of Australian Shorts and the Short Laugh Comedy programmes to Airlie Beach, Whitsundays, with films hand-picked from the festival’s 2400 entries. Audiences are set to enjoy an inspiring and award winning range of films, giving local Flickerfest audiences the first look at the hottest shorts in the world today.

Flickerfest will be presenting the Best of Australian Shorts programme at Whitsundays PCYC on Friday 7th April at 7pm featuring shorts from some of Queensland’s brightest emerging filmmakers including ‘Welcome to Country’, by Hopevale native Dean Gibson, a tongue in cheek look at a hotshot public servant’s visit to a remote Aboriginal community and ‘The Boggabilla Bus’, shot in the Toowoomba region, a sweet ode to friendship which examines just how far you’ll go for your best friend.

Also screening is winner of the Flickerfest 2017 Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation ‘Fish with Legs’ voiced by Frank Woodley and Barry Otto, and ‘MESSiAH’, a playful collision of cultures in the Australian wilderness, starring David Gulpilil and written and directed by Underbelly star Damian Walshe-Howling.

Our Short Laughs Comedy programme on Saturday 8th April at 7pm showcases the most side-splitting shorts to come from Australia and across the world, including oddball comedy ‘Twinsburg’ from the USA, shining the spotlight on a midwestern town where thousands convene for the world’s largest gathering of twins and ‘The Record: World’s Largest Family’, co-written by and starring Triple J radio host Veronica Milsom. This gloriously funny and surprisingly touching mockumentary takes you into a world where a couple, in their quest for a little girl, end up with 69 boys and a determination to break the record for world’s largest family.

Don’t miss Flickerfest 2017 when it lands in Airlie Beach, Whitsundays at Whitsundays PCYC!
