Rotary Advanced Driving Event 20 Oct 2008 - 23 Oct 2008 Details for this year RADE program will be the same as 2007 as follows,
We are running an advanced driving course for up to 100 students from Bowen, Proserpine High Schools and the Whitsunday Christian College, the purpose is to give them the skills to survive on our roads, Mark O'Donnell the then Director of Youth projects started this initiative which is now in its Forth year. The Driving trainer course would normally cost students $320.00, but as this is a Rotary sponsored program it will cost students only $40.00.
The program consists of one full days training. The following timetable will be run each day commencing 20th October and concluding on the 23rd October. A maximum of 20 students will be participating on any one day.
9. 00 Am. Meet at tuck shop and you will be taken to a class room for a 2 hour theory lesson.
The theory consists of:
o Analysis of risk of road crashes
o Legal matters pertaining to drivers including dangerous use of a motor vehicle.
o Vehicle Energy, potential for damage, types of crashes.
o Advanced Driving Techniques- managing and controlling time/space.
Power point presentation and lecture notes are used throughout the theory lesson.
11. 30 Am. An early lunch break will be taken at the school. Students are to provide their own lunch.
12.00 Pm. A mini bus will be provided by Whitsunday Transit to transfer the students to the site of the practical driving session.
The Whitsunday Shire Council and Police are closing Spruces Road from 12.00pm to 4.00pm each day for the purpose of the practical driving sessions.
The practical driving sessions consist of:
o Reaction times and stopping distances.
o Correct braking techniques
o Correct cornering techniques
o Posture and bracing
o Correct use of mirrors and correct use of eyesight in detecting hazards.
o Control of a vehicle in a skid situation.
4.00 pm Completion of the programme. Students will be transferred back to Proserpine State High School.
Assessment will be by oral and practical testing and a package of selected folders and booklets, which summarise the course, is given to each participant as “follow up” reference material.
A statement of attendance will also be issued on successful completion of the program.
The Rotary Club of Airlie Beach will provide refreshments during the practical driving session.
Filby's Toyota has generously offered the use of three vehicles to use for the practical driving sessions. There will be a combination of automatic and manual vehicles. These vehicles will be available for students to use for their practical driving sessions where no other vehicle is available. However it is preferred that the training is conducted in the student’s usual vehicle.

Youth Program - South Passage Sail Training 04 Aug 2007 - 08 Aug 2007 This program is the Rotary Youth Program for Enrichment (RYPEN) helping the Youth of the Whitsundays, Bowen Ayr and Home Hill
From the 4th - 8th August a group of High School Students will depart Airlie Beach, for a 5 day sailing trip around the Whitsundays. These students will take part in motivational activities, and learn how to be part of a team.

Whitsunday Offshore Powerboat Classic 16 Jun 2007 - 17 Jun 2007 Come down to the Meridien Marinas Abel Point on the 16th & 17th June to see the fastest boats in Australia compete in their next round of championships. Go into the draw to win a ride on one of these exciting boats.
